Substack is super tiny and entirely dependent on Twitter.
Discussion
Do you think Elon asked substack for a slice of their revenue?
I find it funny that Elon felt intimidated by them. He doesn't understand network effects?
How is it dependant (not trying to be a dick) on twitter? I left twitter months ago and use Substack daily for the folks I follow. It hasnβt slowed me down at all not being on twitter. Am I the outlier?
Traffic. You found your network already.
Does Nostr depend on Twitter for traffic too?
This response feels like a gut punch. But yeah, for now at least.
ahimsa π
not tying to punch anyone here
I know. I just mean it hurts to hear it, but seems true. For now at least.
nostr is *super* early, tied to bitcoin, and has multiple clients. I guess/hope the signal will just keep building.
compared to Substack which is just one, smaller, centralised thing isnβt it
Its entirely different thing building on its own momentum. Its super useful to build on and easy to use. I'm in no hurry for any mass adoption. Being that its largely untethered to Twitter is a good thing.
agree hundred percent
thereβs a big difference between driving traffic and finding new users
βThey will come. In due course, they will comeβ as our friend Christine Lagarde would say
Doubt Twitter drives any meaningful traffic to nostr.
Agreed.
I wonder what percentage of twitter users add a Substack or Nostr pubkey on their profile to push traffic to the other platform. Or mastodon for that matter.
I donβt see Substack getting anywhere near twitter size but I do like the platform.
That being said Iβm willing to bet Nostr would be a much better option for anyone already using Substack, in due time that is.
A better way to monetize would be excellent for those users.
I think it's hard to say, because the nostr notes don't have a referrer that can be directly identified. Today ppl just copy it and search in the client
Thereβd be enough revenue in their subs to substantially uplift the nostr economy though.
Soon shall see
