I used to read more than I do now. It was easier when there were fewer distractions. These days, I read like my attention span depends on it. I’ve caught myself more than once listening to an audiobook while scrolling Nostr or texting. Split focus steals depth.
Now, I leave my phone charging in another room. I hold a paper book, slow down, breathe, and read. Full attention. One task. One journey.
What do I do when a book gets boring or difficult?
I assign myself a daily page count, no questions asked. When it drags, I push through 5 more pages. Often, it turns around.
If I’m not in the right headspace, I switch books and finish the day’s goal with something else. Usually, I read two at once: one on economics, one lighter.
And, surrounding yourself with readers really helps.
