BREAKING: Paolo Ardoino and Elizabeth Stark just announced Tether is launching USDT on Bitcoin’s Lightning Network
Discussion
Cool
Interesting! 🧐
If you want more information on this:
"Tether, the largest company in the digital assets industry, announced the integration of USDt into Bitcoin’s ecosystem, including both its base layer and the Lightning Network. Supported by a new Taproot-powered protocol, Taproot Assets, and developed by Lightning Labs, this integration combines Bitcoin’s unmatched decentralization and security with the speed and scalability of the Lightning Network, redefining how stablecoins can function within the Bitcoin ecosystem. We defeat the dollar hegemony by creating the digital railroad for dollar hegemony?

The thing with tether is that half of the global south has already adopted it way ahead of bitcoin, but since it's dollar-linked, it's grows less useful the less useful dollars are.
We'd be smart to have them all using bitcoin underneath their tether so when they no longer want currency linked to the dollar, they've already got access to sats without changing wallets.
I get the UDST use case with the world. Running on a permissionless protocol will keep governments and their native fist in check but it’s also a signal that bitcoin isn’t being adopted the way we would hope but rather the reality of the dollar hegemony.
It’s a net win for the world just discouraging as a pleb who sees bitcoin as a currency and not just a store of value.
I'm not discouraged at all, mainly because I see the dollar not existing in a decade or two from now.
No USD, no USDT.
Damn, sorry about the spam, my client is buggy today.
Think I will just stick with sats
There is a big demand for USDT, lightning network would allow the UX of accepting bitcoin payments and storing fiat or accepting fiat and storing bitcoin ⚡️
Huge
Remember Taro?
I will gladly route USDT trough my node for 10 cents.
But you should also know, I charge no fee for sats.
interesting
what is TRON used for then?
What does that mean? They are talking about liquid?
I already herd this from Dennis Porter 🙄

More use of lightning and Bitcoin is good, and unstoppable. Well, unless you don't use it :)
Remember stablecoins are bankers play at CBDCs
I don't get it. They will use LN for doing what exactly? Message passing?
How does is this work? Can we transfer USDT in a peer to peer fashion with this lightning? Or are we talking about custodial tether?
Is that good news or bad news? I'm still on the fence. One one hand, they're using the lightning network. One the other, they're an altcoin. I realize they help people who are unbanked and don't want to rely on their nation's currency. I think eventually bitcoin subsumes (is that the best word to use?) all these other forms of money, so maybe it's fine. Time will tell.
BUILDING BLOCKS FOR THE TAKEOVER….
JUST SAY BITCOIN :)
