Who doesnβt like nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n Zapvertising? They are giving you free sats π
You don't get to choose how people interact with your notes on #nostr. That would be censorship.
I always hated how someone could block you on Twitter and prevent you from commenting or even seeing their content. Once you put words out into the world they are no longer yours to control. You can't control how people react to them. You can't take them back or make people forget you said them. They become public domain.
Likewise you can't make people listen either. If someone doesn't want to see you in their feed that is their choice, not yours. If you don't like what nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n is doing with zapvertising then block them! If advertising of any kind becomes a too big of a problem then choose a client that blocks them for you. You do not have to suffer from ads if you don't want to. Choosing not to listen to someone is not censorship, it's freedom.
Discussion
I don't have a problem yet because it's not that intrusive, but in general I despise advertising. I think people are just thinking about the future when nostr becomes a larger audience and advertisers see a big opportunity to reach people and what that could look like. What if there were 50 zapvertisements on a popular post and you wanted to see who had zapped not for advertising? You would still have to look through the ads even though you didn't get zapped directly.
You have the wrong idea what zapvertising is. nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n just zap notes they like, they never push any ads, people just talk about them when they got zapped and a buzz is created organically.
So they are paying people that I follow to advertise for them? I like that even less.
No. They are just creating buzz by zapping people. No one is paid to push anything afaik.
Seriously if this is what zapvertising is you all are a bunch of tools. Are you really going to sell out for 21 sats? This "organic buzz" has permeated my feed for several days and all it is is a company zapping some notes without even saying anything? Lame.
So them zapping people they follow is somehow wrong? Then Just mute them and everyone that got zapped by them, I am sure your feed will be βcleanerβ π€·π»ββοΈπ
There's nothing wrong with them zapping, but that's all it is then. You all talk about zapvertising like it's some revolutionary thing, but it's literally just the same as every other zap. This buzz is almost certainly a one time thing, once other companies start zapping notes no one will give a shit.
So you would rather pay $8 and see ads every other tweet? Doesnβt make any sense.
I don't know how you're getting that from what I said.
The revolution is the end user getting paid directly from the company. There is no middleman like TWTR that will algo you to death to get you to stay on the platform so they get paid, while you get nothing but a few likes.
If the advertising is the "buzz" then everyone subject to it is not getting paid. How many people have read about blockstream in the past week that didn't get zapped by them?
Look, I'm not going to waste any more of my time on this. I have been unwittingly sucked into this zapvertising fad and I am now going to ignore it now that I understand it better.
What he said isnβt whatβs happening either. People are embedded full posts in these zapvertisements.
Blockstream doing it politely does not mean thatβs what this is or will be. https://nostr.build/av/179044dd3438f8fa58e12a34c5f333b20b5f2b5e6d7f31022beedbeeaf8a7f2c.mov
That's what I thought. Everything else I said still applies to that type of zapvertising. I'm really over this subject though. I hate ads and I feel like I've been tricked into advertising right now.
I feel very conflicted about zapvertising. Could get a little annoying when everyone gets sat dusted with the same spam ad over and over again by a company with a massive budget.
(Note: I zapvertise the little dumb websites I create sometimes, so I am guilty of doing it too)
