Bitcoin wins because the network effect of it's first mover status gives it the ability to make the best tradeoffs. This ensures it maintains its network effect.
Privacy is important. Bitcoin needs to do better here, when it does monero will trend to zero. The only threat is ignorant node runners believing a lack of privacy is a good thing, blocking protocol enhancements.
