Who you messaged is NOT part of the metadata, who RECEIVED a message is, the sender is in the wrap.

for anyone who is curious, the tl;dr is that it's essentially a tool to create secure, private, closed community networks, i.e. think about it as invite only communities. all data is stored on each CCN member's machine, and you can build small applications on top of the CCN to enable all sorts of things (e.g. a forum, a simple tweet client, image sharing, money pools, whatever comes to your mind)
NIP-17 doesn't, I don't understand how some of the major players still dont use that.

And even then they’re still lacking in features compared to other, much better, e2ee, private messaging services. So if you have to use a separate app anyway, why not just use a better service? 🤷♂️😂
