You don't live in the right country for self check-out kiosk. In Switzerland it started st least 10 years ago. First with scanner that you clip on the shopping cart and scan as you add stuff to your bag, then you go to thr cashier, leave everything in the bags, pay and leave.

Then started to appear the kisok to pay what you scan with the scanner. And soon after the full self check-out kiosk at exit as you explain here. Except in Switzerland there is no complicated scale system. You just scan, pay and go. I guess Swiss are well too honest to cheat and even if some do cheat or honestly forgot to scan something, it's still less money lost that the cost of an extra employee which would earn at least 4000€/month and cost the shop even more with side cost, sick leave, materinity leave and taxes.

And even if we do have random control in thr beggining I don't remember when it happened last time, except for the age control for alcool, which I barely buy and one of the largest supermarket chain in the country is not selling any alcool or cigarette anyway, I can affirm I was not controlled for at least 2 years.

So experience is quite good for users, no queue, you scan as fast if not faster than an employee and you can sort stuff in you bag in the order and at the speed you want, not like stuff are crushing into esch other while you try to pack them as fast as possible, prepare your card and check what the kids are doing.

But for having suffer the kiosk with scale in other country, it's never again for me as well.
