Sometimes I wonder how people become mayors of small towns when they are not doing anything to help those towns grow … kind of makes me want to run for mayor of a small town just so I can show them how it’s done 😆

I ran for my towns last year.
Almost won.
😅
Well try again next year though.
Is it feasible where you live for an expect to become a mayor?
Not where I live, no. But not far from me, probably.
You should. Here in the US the mayoral position is a puppet head
The real work and approvals are done by the administrator, who the council hires.
The mayor is nothing but a BS job here in small town USA. Want to make a real change? Get hired as the administrator
The small town I lived in a few years ago got rid of the new mayor because the people don't want the town to grow.
In Japan we have an aging population problem. When your town becomes old, it gets increasingly more difficult to attract younger people and the whole area goes to shit. Only the old may wish for this if they don’t care about what happens to the area after they are gone.
I assume sometimes people want to ensure the towns DON'T grow. Sometimes people fear the over-commercialization of their quaint, safe, small towns, and would prefer the minimalistic approach. I used to work for a small business in one such town, and it seemed like at every turn the town gave us the message that business was at best tolerated. Most of the town commuted to the surrounding cities.
