Oh I totally agree that democracy as a system is a horrible thing, and not what was ever intended, but the funny part is that even those who claim to want democracy want to see it subverted when things don't turn out exactly the way they wanted, which really means that no one actually wants a democracy.

Ideally a benevolent dictator
I think total free trade under a sound monetary system is the ideal. Everyone can trade as much freedom for security as they want & later change their minds & exit their previously chosen collective without having to flee to some foreign land.
Unfortunately, free trade has proven to be not so free. I fear that there will always be a shit token in the way. These ETFs are an example, not redeemable in kind.
If sound money is a choice then shit tokens will eventually only be a path to the exact sort of hell people deserve. Someone is always going to try to sell people softdrinks or some other drug packaged as though it is harmless, if we can create a world without govts running protection for the scammers then things will be significantly better.
That is the dream. I am optimistic but typically cynical. I'm a Londoner
