Are you saying devs should write code that compensates themselves based on how many lines of code they wrote?

Maybe that's a bad way like you're saying but you can be creative in how you operate it.
I'm sure someone could come up with a good funding model that happens in a decentralized way.
And even if they can't, an open source code base lives on and can be worked on into the future at snails pace.
