I made my first post on Nostr on 1st February. A lot has happened since then. I've had time to evaluate what is happening here, in particular as it compares to my own activity in Twit land.

First of all, it's obvious that the first wave of Nostr adopters are bitcoiners. So right now, for me, Nostr is the ideal place to meet all sorts of people who love bitcoin and to hang out together. This is especially useful to me, living in a small country on the other side of the world, where not much happens by way of open bitcoin activity.

However, as I Twit user I realise I can't totally leave that platform yet, as I have other interests and follow other people outside of bitcoin space. For example I'm interested in the wider areas of freedom philosophy, economics and geopolitics.

Ideally, over time, people with interests other than bitcoin will migrate to Nostr. However, the primary appeal and value of this platform is that it's free from government, corporate and algorithmic control - and the sad fact is many people don't value that as much as we do.

Hopefully, as time proceeds and the nature and dead hand of state control becomes more widely understood, more people will appreciate and adopt what Nostr is offering.

Bitcoiners have interests other than Bitcoin 😄

Exactly! But those other interests are likely very diverse, and as such provide an opportunity for more specific interest groups to evolve on Nostr.

But 90% of the convos here are about Bitcoin! The remaining 10% are conspiracy theories about the government and aliens. Lol

What’s Bitcoin?

I’d love to see Nostr become a Reddit-like group of communities. For example, on Twitter if I am in yoga, Bitcoin, photography and knitting, I can’t really post about any of these topics without boring 3/4 of my followers. Not every note need to be broadcasted to everyone.

Maybe that’s where relays will eventually come in handy?

Telegram is good for that also.

You can post about whatever you like. If 3/4 of your followers can’t handle a multifaceted person, that’s their issue.

How can we migrate these communities here? Functionality and incentives .. but what specifically do your other communities need?

This is when we’ll be able to tell who’s really an “influencer”. If they move over and no one comes with them then they never were an influencer.

(Back when I was in pharma marketing we called them “thought leaders” - same idea…)

wonderful to meet n have u here

Great post! I am a bitcpiner but I joined the cryptospace in August 2021 because of NFTs not the jpegs but the technology. Since then I've focused on helping people with contracts and crypto security.

More of a roundabout web3 guy but I also stack sats and DCA bitcoin.

I'm loving Nostr so far as I'm a huge advocate for decentralized social media.

I've had nostr less than a day and its great.
