Anyone else find they’re actually more productive with a single monitor?

You are looking for the impossible 😂💜

Absolutely one medium sized one

More focused, right?

Yes.

Even more focus is no computer and walking or meditation or piece of paper :)

Ideally. Unfortunately for me its kinda hard to code without a computer 😆

Call it “no code” or management

I’m not less productive. MacBook Pro, no peripherals.

Same 🤙

Yep this.

Depends on my working mode. If I’m writing, I like a single monitor because it allows me to focus with fewer distractions.

If I need to reference other material, I can get by with either a bigger monitor or split screen.

I usually use an ultra wide which gives me both options! ✨

Reading this made me wonder if there is a such thing as an ultrawide laptop, and lo and behold, this monstrosity

yup

Ultrawide... Or?

Yes. I like hooking up to the monitor and closing my laptop. Really though, I think I get most done on my laptop screen itself without being plugged in.

I’ve been using stage manager with a single monitor lately and it’s been pretty great.

Yes.

My monitor:

And yet its still 640x480 😂

My eyesight is eh...not so good.

The physical gaps make the overall view just unpleasant.

I only see a ‘spatial computer’ sufficiently solve ultra wide computer work spaces.

For my own work I prefer the focus of small screens, A4 format or smaller, anyway. No multitasking aside from some moderate Stage Manager use either.

I’ve been on dual and 3 monitors for a long time before going to a single screen. I remember feeling almost claustrophobic and very limited going to one. But got used to it again in a few days.

I will say sometimes I wish I had more screen space to view stuff side by side, but it hasn’t really impacted my productivity as far as I can tell.

Virtual desktop spaces ftw

💯

Yeah, I like the ultrawide. I wish Mac allowed keyboard commands to snap the window to half of the screen. On Linux this is super easy. On Mac you have to buy after market software.
