Hi I'm Vance 👋

I'm not a new user. I've been around a year or so. I'd like to welcome all new users and tell you to avoid using #primal app.

It will ask you for your personal details (aka KYC) and there is no valid reason too in order to use Nostr. They are simping for someone. Perhaps govts which you came here to avoid.

On Nostr we care about privacy and are very aware of the powers that be and how they like to control. I REPEAT there is no need to give over the data they ask for in order to use Nostr.

**** Nostr is an open protocol but that also means open to nefarious actors. Beware. ****

Some alternatives are Amethyst on Android and Damus on iOS.

See screenshot below for their KYC page on wallet set up. Other users have noticed if you search #primal you will find some.

NB: the online world is swimming in KYC and its hard to avoid but I think its important to avoid in ways we can.

Vance, their wallet has minimal KYC because it's required by Strike. They use Strike's backend for their infrastructure.

I understand that but it just means the layers of control are embedded at diff level. Control nonetheless. Strike while a slick service is also KYC and therefore part of a control mechanism. I also use it but I'll move to my own LN node soon.

This is what I was figuring - which is prob also why Plebstr won’t let me zap on iOS bc they aren’t using Strike.

Plebstr doesn't have a built in wallet like Primal does. The only two Nostr clients with built in wallets are Primal and Current.

As for Plegbstr. It's fairly old and outdated, not having any updates in a very long time. They're moving to a new unified decentralized app, combing Nostr and ActivityPub.

KYC? Really? It’s not KYC, you can write whatever you want. It doesn’t ask for a valid ID validated by a third party.

Just write and live wherever you want, it’s a check in the box from them.

How do you even set up one with Damus? It seems like the only option is Alby and that’s invite only now.

I use Amethyst on Android so not sure sorry. Maybe an #damus user can help you or as nostr:npub1l3e2uj7dzs226s7q9utf9ghml8f3mcv7252hd69nhg2z62updklqv8zq2r says perhaps use Nostur which I beleive is also highly rated.

It has it's tiny problems on ios, mainly with editing written text before sending, but out of Plebstr, Damus and Primal is still the best for me. Most flexible in settings. #nostur

Just joined recently and wallet integration has been the biggest hurdle. If I'm using primal on mobile then it's fine but there are hoops I have to jump through if I'm using a different app combo. Hopefully that pathway gets ironed out over time

all the moneros and bitcoin haters on #nostr who bitch about the payment system, and i bumped into one today who was otherwise a reasonable human being...

if they understood that their shitocoin could join this ecosystem simply by implementing NWC...

they would know that they should shut the fuck up and go talk to their favourite shitcoin devs to get NWC working

that's why i hate them all even more now than ever, when they post bullshit on nostr and don't even know what they are talking about

and this is also why i'm going to drop this one on my final milestone review because currently the vague idea is they will use their "wrapped" bitcoin derivative in this, but there is no reason why they can't add NWC to their main wallet implementation and join the network properly

no, i don't like shitcoiners

but they have enough common interests, the naive ones, to constitute a massive userbase we can invite here and warm up to the joys of lightning, and that interest will also boost the funding for LN development, or Ark, or whatever, since the whole point of NWC is precisely abstracting this payment process

i have seen in the NIPs about markets, that markets don't dictate the currency so it's completely mistaken on teh part of the haters that this protocol is bitcoin/ln only

that's only because they are too stupid to realise that is a really dumb idea and despite everything this dumb idea has not dictated the specification, and i still hate fiatjaf and drivechains and liquid and all the other shitcoins, but we can't win as a social network without owning the p2p payment space, and NWC is already here waiting for people to use

I am more concerned about the lack of any keys and seeds from the Primal wallet. I hope the wallet is tied to the user's nsec or something like that. However, this is not the place to keep funds. Minimal information about user does not look like a problem. There is no confirmation requests. And you can use a third-party wallet at last. For me Primal is the daily driver mobile client today. It's cool and I'm biased😎

Yeah Strike doesnt use seed phrases sonthat won't happen. The convenience and slick design is how they suck you you in ino. They will rugpull you eventually I think or Strike will. You can add Alby which is waitlosted now or Mutiny LN Node I beleive but most don't even known what this is. Nice that they do for now but I thunk just being able to addan LN address is a more attractive option to me.
