Yeah, but currently on Damus you will leak metadata like who you are chatting with when using DMs. The messages themselves are private though.

It warns you when you receive a message that is not gift wrapped. This means you’ll leak metadata if you respond to it.

Is there an option to send an unwrapped message to make sure they get it?

Unfortunately, it's no longer available to prevent users from accidentally sending an unwrapped DM. Perhaps you could use another client to notify the other person
