Good morning! I am starting a project and looking for advice & parts.

I am looking for a small BTC mining rig that I can connect to my planned solar project:

- runs on 115v (solar)

-can solo mine (no mining pool)

-connects to WIFI (not sure if this exists...)

I welcome your suggestions! Also, can you include what I should expect to pay for it, and where I can find it? Thank you!

To do what? Mine bitcoin? Not possible with solar only.

That is why I would buy a bitcoin miner. Or maybe to heat the battery box in the winter. Why is it not possible to do this without grid-tie power? Without boring you with system specs, my numbers say I can run a small miner.

You can, if you use Bitaxe or Nerdaxe. But those are just toys to learn about mining. A proper miner needs sustained power of 3 to 4kW/h. You need a pretty big solar farm for that and what are you going to do at night?

I looked at the s17 & s19 miners - they are power-hungry. I am designing the solar to slower my garage and outdoors things(lights, refrigerator, IP cams, etc.). A small miner is just frosting on a cake. If it makes back what I spend on it, good! Otherwise I wasted $100 on a lottery ticket. (It may be the single time I gamble…)

How much power can you provide?

Not possible to buy a s19 under $500 nowadays.

I’ll be producing around 1.5KwH/day (max). Small potatoes. Enough for my garage refrigerator, lights, IP cams & a few lights.

Refrigerator is on a timer - kept on long enough to keep things cool, but not all the time.

I’ll build an 8’x12’ shelter (roof will face south only - no ridge in the center like house or barn have…) over my picnic table and plan to mount panels on it. I haven’t done numbers yet to know what I’ll have space to put on it. I have things for a 12v system, and plan to start with that for a few years then migrate to 48v.

S19 needs 3kW an hour.

Not a day, an hour. πŸ˜‚

Yeah… that’s bigger than what the boss will let me do without proof of return off investment! 🀣

You can probably run a on overlocked bitaxe gamma for β€œfree”. It uses 30W an hour.

Cost about $150 to $200 all in. But this is just for fun. Don’t expect to hit anything.

Start with a BitAxe.... nostr:nprofile1qqstrcgctzz2d52thl8r3xwt205pswkauep0yexsla83w3fhrcrpxnqprpmhxue69uhhqun9d45h2mfwwpexjmtpdshxuet5xp62jx Relatively cheap device that is great for learning.

Thank you! I’ll look into that.

First thing that you learn is that fedcoins like BTC are not supposed to be mined by people like yourself.

Second thing you learn is that gupax and monero are exactly what you are looking for.

Guys, I’ve been in/around Bitcoin since it was 26 cents. I’ve probably had and lost more bitcoin than you’ll ever see. Crypto (bitcoin is not the same as crypto) is not the way: Bitcoin has been solid longer than these other experiments and, in some cases, scam-coins have been around. I acknowledge I don’t know everything (or close to it - my wife can confirm!), and in terms of miners - I am one of the OG’s who actually got one of the Butterfly Labs rigs. And I sold it to a dude in Switzerland for more than I paid for it. I’m not looking to get rich from mining. I have extra capacity on my solar I want to use to contribute to the BTC network and gamble with the chance I might get lucky and win a mining reward. If you have something constructive to say, I’d love to hear it.

Just for info, I was mining bitcoin with CPUs before that fedcoin even had a price on it. Most of my profit at the time was daytrading stocks with bots, so I also lost and won quite a bit more than the average.

Please don't contribute to BTC.

It is singlehandedly killing the reason why crypto currencies were created and turning them into nothing more than speculative stocks that are regulated and monitored by governments. People are being hurt and chased because they don't understand yet that privacy is critical, we have the responsibility to drive them into a better option.

Learn more about Monero.

If you know what your doing you can hook up solar directly to the mining board without a power supply. The boards run off DC.

Couple years ago 100mile ranch used to do it on X. Haven't heard from him in ages.

If you got lotsa electricity. Like 1500w. Try a old bitmain s9. Old and cheap. If using a power hungry machine Running of batteries not worth the trouble.

If it has no wifi connectivity you can buy dongles on Amazon.

Get a Braiins mini miner, they're better than a Bitaxe for the quality you're getting and they're made by Braiins OGs to the mining space. nostr:nprofile1qqsw8cgev4y590aqgkrvdpyftas7tzw8ukzecag8gedhz3p7xtamras4z5eyn can give you more details on the mini miner and can share really good resources on mining.

I use everything from Braiins for my mining set up and they even has a solo pool if you want to teach others that don't have a node yet. It was a game changer going from what I was using.

Also the Mini miner runs BraiinsOS a good OS for miners in my opinion. I have everything on solar and I've been able to maximize rewards more than if I just stuck with stock OS and mining to Ocean.
