I did it this morning too, you have to open on a page with a link and click lantern

This is one of the very few cases in which the error message is actually helpful, so I understand that almost no one reads it.

User error. I tried to hit the highlight extension on the extension page itself, resulting in that error.

Fine on other pages.

I ran into the same trouble when I first used lantern. The powerful part is pdf highlight capability
