I try to point out to people that there’s a difference between a country’s economic system and its monetary system. People often conflate the apparent ill effects of one to the other.
Sometimes a good comment is “I used to think so too until I learned that the biggest problem is our monetary system and the way we issue currency, not our economic system.” Someone with that opinion hasn’t even gotten their big toe wet on the topic of what money is and how it’s issued.
