What is “communication layer” and what would be example of “anything else”? #nostr
Discussion
Communication is what we are doing now and the anything else part I would point to all the nostr applications being built that I haven't really used yet...but they seem interesting.
Stuff like wavelake and yonder
Thanks. If I may… wondering what would count as your “base layer” for communications. We get this a lot… and would like to know if all of these count. Any others?
- DMs
- “notes” timelines & threads
- private group chats
- open “community” threads
- long form articles & blog posts
- classified ad / job posting
- question / answer threads.
- …?
Good question. DMs are not great on nostr and group chats seem to be non-existant so far. I would like to see more development there because truthfully that is probably my base layer. I am not sure if nostr is ultimately the best tech for that...
In this case I am thinking mostly of notes and timelines. Threads with Q&A are also great. Job postings would also be excellent.
When I posted the note I was just referring to our ability to send words out and have others read them and reply. Breaking those communications down into categories wasn't on my mind.
I see. These are all discrete implementation possibilities for nostr. Many others also… but important to recognize what are (generally agreed on) “base layer” nips and which ones are “not so much”.
Right. Hard for me to say which communication layer I would consider base.
Do you think DMs and group chats are a functionality that could be implemented on nostr to create something like an alternative to Telegram?
I do. nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn is leading the charge with gift wrapped “no data leak” private groups in coracle. Long time coming.

Wonderful to hear that! Big hodlbod fan 🤙 We met in Tokyo.
I really don't keep tabs on nostr projects the way I could. Is there a developers newsletter? I would love something simple like that. I bet others would as well.
