Next cloud looks to be minimum 100 users and is still cloud based…so I’m confused as to how it helps with privacy.

You can host your own nextcloud instance. I think Start9 has nextcloud in their appstore.

By storing your own data instead of using proprietary cloud like google, they can't harvest your data. Anything you upload to such a cloud can be used by them as per their end user license agreement.

And it’s the mail server and everything just like Google work suite?

(We have thousands of docs in Google format)

You can install plugins, apps, that can replicate google products. Haven't tried to make an email server yet, so not sure about that.

Docs works. I also saw companies hosting their own cloud with nextcloud.
