true, but only if you leave the salt on the yeast for long enough to kill it. If you mix all up soon after you should be fine.

How long would that be? ages surely

Salt can start to kill the yeast fairly quickly. If left on fresh yeast might only take 20mins to massively reduce the life of the yeast

I think that should serve anyone right for answering the phone while making bread!

I usually mix the yeast with the water and half the flour first, then add the salt with the remaining flour.

The other packet of dried yeast said to do that 👍
