inflation broke currency. imagine when the dollar rounds up! not too far away. i've lived in places where we just rounded up to the next 1,000 bill because they had no coins and weekly fluctuating inflation and exchange rates just made it easier to round to 1,000 or 5,000... it didn't really matter any way because the currency was so worth-less

1st nail in the coffin for sure.

My bet is a lot of boomers who want to make America great again will cheer this on not realizing the sound dollar was what made America great and this is a move toward dollar death not an improvement.

yeah, this is a clear indication of how oblivious everyone is to the tidal wave hanging above them... you know that copper thing you collected and used all your life? yeah it's gone. Yes. everyone keep shuffling along and not even be bothered by the penny's mysterious disappearance... a few will ask questions and even fewer will comprehend the ramifications...

I doubt Americans will have long to get used to rounding to the nearest nickel. They already cost 14¢ to produce and it won't be getting cheaper.

But what will this do to collector price of pennies?

Haha. They sell giant bricks of million dollar bills for pennies after hyperinflation events. Even as sentimental collectors items I doubt they'd be worth the 4¢ they take to mint.

1960s real silver quarters still sell for the melt value of their silver weight in the collector community. No premium to be found except in the most pristine of specimens.
