Not trying to be a hater, but Merkle Trees are so much safer than simply hashing a large file. Delay attacks from downloading large files is real.

Merkle tree of what? Split the file into chunks like BitTorrent and a tree of those chunks’ hashes?

Yes. Each file chunk hash matches the merkle root of the file’s Merkle tree.

It’s the proper way to propagate files in untrusted network environments.
