It's not on by default you have to go into the settings to turn it on. You sholdn't need to leave the app open to sync. A notification will pop up every now and then letting you know it's syncing. It worked great for awhile for me but recently been hit or miss. Sometimes it won't sync. Maybe has something to do with me using GrapheneOS
