I will believe this if I see non-bitcoiners coming in to nostr and they're not chased out. Open arms

We all wear different hats and are part of various communities. For example, I’m very active on med Twitter and would love to see that community here (and working on projects to do just that).

But the goal of everyone who understands the potential of Nostr should not be to stop being part of the bitcoin community that brought many of us here. Over the past few months I’ve seen prominent accounts call for bitcoiners to self-censor, dox ourselves to make normies “more comfortable”, and other bullshit ideas. The goal should be to #grownostr by finding ways to create more communities who don’t necessarily care about bitcoin. Not suppress early adopters here by implying it’s an echo chamber that needs to be quieted down.

I don't necessarily believe that it needs to be "quieted down." But a community with no skepticism is an echo chamber. That's not necessarily a universally bad thing. But it could feel exclusive, which doesn't often imply growth.

Agreed. I liked the concept of nostr from a technical perspective.

But it is mainly bitcoiners who use it. It’s not simple to ask communities to come here. Need to make nostr better alternative in terms of ux and welcome ness.

There’s are plenty of people here who called for this community to self censor and be more “welcoming” to normies.

And it feels exclusive because there are really only two significant communities here (right now). The dev community, and the bitcoin community. We had a good number of egirls for a bit, but there isn’t enough of a user base to keep them here and support them. By the way, they were welcomed by everyone, even though they had no initial interest in bitcoin. If they had a censorship resistant OnlyFans alternative, maybe they would have stayed.

Bitcoiners are incredibly diverse in our demographics and backgrounds, but bitcoiners also tend to be very willing to analyze and scrutinize and question information that challenges their assumptions and beliefs.

If anything, bitcoiners have escaped the actual echo chambers of MSM and fiat culture.

But there's a healthy amount of gatekeeping out there too. Ridicule towards people who are skeptical of Bitcoin. And with the size of the Bitcoin community here, that is extremely intimidating.

It's just a mindset we need to remind ourselves of from time to time imo

Who are we chasing out? Actually who’s not being welcoming?

We will grow if the community is helpful. I think our goal is to assist people in learning a still building idea. We have time. We have long term thinking. Twitter was texting with strangers, Facebook was only for university students, Youtube was for user created videos.

Nostr is open to those that want to learn and see value. As a user my only job is to create, build, and be as friendly as I can.

On a personal note I struggle with my profile picture, the lazer eyes that were given to me upon my arrival was an amazing gift. I know they symbolize different things to different people. My goal is to show that a single subsection of my community doesn’t speak for me, and here we are all good people, building for more good people.

I value you both and can’t wait to see what you build here.

Every other facuet of my life i get comments: the traditional farmer, my coworkers, my leftists ideas.

It’s a really nice place to share value, value that’s kinda missing in our world today. And it may take time for this protocol to rise. But the community, along with their strong & varied values, will grow. It's so great and special, a revolution on the internet. 💜 #longtermthinking

Exactly, the best way to combat speech you don't like is with more speech you do like and you can always mute if the personal annoyance becomes too great.
