Those are all great ideas. however due to how NIP-72 works with the communities spread across multiple relays it makes it really difficult to calculate those number. especially for the client

I feel bad for saying this because people have put a lot of work into the existing communities but I don't think NIP-72 has a future. Its too complicated. even if you take the moderation out its still spread across 5+ relays which means getting all the data to show the "most popular" posts is impossible for clients :(

for me the big fail of current communities is lack of moderation tools. a community is not "the public square" that Twitter was supposed to be. a community is a private room.

the reason you don't need moderation on Twitter is because everybody has to manually choose who to follow. if somebody is a jerk - simply don't follow them. but in a Community once you open it you get content from everybody - not just people you're following.

furthermore whereas there is one public square there are many private rooms so even if somebody is banned from 90% of then it isn't really censorship as long as they have the right to open their own room and have moderating privileges there, plus they aren't banned from the main public square.

we need communities where the moderators can ban trolls and / or delete their posts. the current model only worked so far because nobody was using it in the first place. even on my own site which is clearly not heavily used i had to ban many trolls.

i don't know about NIP-72 but communities without moderation have no future.

i would not mind starting over from scratch on a different NIP as long as moderation issue is addressed.

up and down voting posts takes the community out of the hands of the founder and puts it at the mercy of the mob of invaders. this can't possibly work.

the founder should be able to ban the invaders rather than let them downvote his own content and upvote their spam / trolling.

if we allow democracy every community will be identical defeating the purpose of having separate communities.

poor quality threads should be eliminated by the moderators and the rest should be sorted based on how "active" the thread is.

there should be NO voting.

certainly people who are not part of the community should not be allowed to vote on anything in the community. approved members might be granted some voting privileges.
