Hello #nostr 👋

This is Pavel Durov, SEO of Telegram.

I am amazed by the magnificence of the decentralized Nostr universe! It's stunning! I never believed that truly convenient messengers could emerge on Nostr, but I was wrong.

0xchat and Xchat pleasantly surprised me - magnificent messengers with a great future! I am also watching Keychat and White Noise with interest. All of these messengers are safer than Telegram.

Telegram has faced criticism for many years, and today I want to admit that Telegram is not a secure messenger. It's security and privacy claims were merely marketing tactics. It's time to acknowledge it.

Yes, Telegram does not have encryption enabled by default and is unsafe for private communication.

I would like more users to adopt Nostr, for Nostr to attract more developers, and for us to see a new, uncensored internet.

Forward, Nostr!✊

From my own experience, I never used telegram because I thought it was safe, I used it because it was the only platform at the time that would allow you to upload a massive amount of data at no charge. Being a part of a few ROM teams over the years, it was a lot easier to upload test builds to the chat rather than post external links. Now, obviously that has come to an end, there was no way that was sustainable. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did, and it has now become just like every other messenger.

It’s also the farthest thing from a censorship free experience, to the point where people could actually be banned entirely from using the service either by a gban or not even being allowed to join telegram because your number has been flagged. Thankfully, there are ways around the latter but allowing individuals to wield sudo powers has made that platform completely unappealing to a lot of people.
