Network Attached Storage (NAS) is the way to go. Store your own files.

You can store your files with 3rd parties (as a backup to your NAS) but you must encrypt them before you upload them. Otherwise, said 3rd party will rifle through your stuff.

Eventually encryption will be cracked. I wouldnt trust even encrypted files stored online. All that data passing through AWS that is encrypted, will be opened one day. Nothing is safe.
