Short answer yes. Depending on the individual 14 can be too. Put it off as long as possible.
Smartphone at 6 is fkn nuts. Maybe around 10-12 depending on maturity with parental controls. Feature phone might be ok at younger ages, but could also go with kid’s Apple Watch
