It's just data compression.

There's no quick & cheap index to the raw data like a traditional db; AI is a small blob of data that needs a lot of on-demand energy to unpack into desired (and incredibly useful) results.

DNA still does it better, but IMO, this blows the pants off of middle-out compression. Still, for typical internet/human-scale stuff, AI works incredibly well.
