A 1 million sat lightning channel can now process payments as large as $800.

As the value of Bitcoin appreciates, the lightning network becomes capable of processing larger payments.

This improvement requires no additional Bitcoin blockspace.

i got only about 1 million sats channels

but i can also send more like 4 million sats via MPP

it it works quite well!

all my payments get through right now

i mean i got a success chance of about 99%

i would say and the major nodes like

phoenix, blink, bitkit, wos and others got also very high chances is my guess

It's kind of a strange feeling. I opened some large(for me) channels a few years ago when the price was around 16k.

Those now can process an insane amount of fiat.

In my head I knew that would be the case, but now I can actually see it.

True

But also increases the cost to open and close a channel

Unfortunately a grocery cart of milk, eggs, strawberries, yogurt and a tray of chicken breast now cost $100....

We still need bigger channels.

Why are we still talking about #USD

Price in #btc or #sats

Because goods and global commerce are priced in USD.

We can look forward to Bitcoin becoming the global Unit of Account, but that may not happen for decades.

Until then, the number of Bitcoin that comprise the public lightning network is largely irrelevant.

Appreciate the explanation. Thanks šŸ™ Guess I’m looking at it backwards. This makes sense šŸ˜‚šŸ™Œ

This is the best reason to care about price IMO: it puts running your own #Lightning node within reach of far more #plebs who don't have a full #BTC (yet) to throw in for liquidity.
