I'm not pro #democracy. I think democracy is __as flawed__ as other systems, as the problem is the #state itself, but with a very dangerous ideological component - that of #self-government. Democracy proponents defend that through elections and polls we express and participate in government, and that as such, democratically-generated decisions are legitimate and that we're ruling ourselves when we stab ourselves in the neck.

This is obviously not the case. Democracy is as autocratic as a monarchy is at the individual level, but it's autocracy through an ideological backdoor. This makes people much more compliant and sedated, and I believe drives us towards #Tocqueville's soft #despotism.

I'm not endorsing any other particular system, by the way. I do believe democracy can be valuable at the small scale, where #assemblies are viable and there's actually a chance of representing yourself. But it is no guarantee, nor an ideological good in and of itself.

I’m pro #democracy because I think it is still the best system of governance we have to collectively make decisions as a society. That said, implementing strong democratic processes and maintaining their integrity is hard. There are really few countries that can claim to have a functioning democracy and many that have been functioning tend to increasingly disfunction over time mostly due rampant corruption. Counter-powers in a democracy are essential and many so-called democracies are seriously lacking in those. Also the media plays an essential role in democracies but those have been co-opted. I think there is still a lot of innovation to have in democratic governance and the next breakthrough will be supported by the digitalization of some democratic processes. Of course this has to be done the right way by maintaining the core principles of democratic processes including transparency and privacy. Also democracy can’t be reduce to the act of voting alone. Voting is a just a tool in the democratic toolset. The alternative to stronger democracies will be a global #technocracy. Pick your favorite!

Lo fundamental es dejar claro lo que es la democracia y que nadie pueda engañar al personal con la idea mitificada de la "democracia", es un sistema que puede ser válido como otros.
