I think people are instinctively scared to join #nostr

I think they feel like entering a free speech zone is an act of war

I think they feel like if they can't be banned, they will get themselves in trouble and maybe end up silenced by force

I don't hear people saying any of this stuff, but I think it's a major factor in nostr's slowness

Very possible.

For a couple of years between the introduction of mass censorship on mainstream sites and when I discovered SSB & Nostr, it was hard to find authentic, old-fashioned flamewars and trolling anywhere.

I used to hang out sometimes on SomaliSpot just for that old-skool forum feel. I have zero connection to Somalia, but "on the internet, nobody knows you're a cadaan!"

#Nostr fixes this :p

This is true. But, they can’t stop all of us… they’re too bureaucratic and not organized enough to. So, some of us must be fearless to do so first…

Walk so that eventually others might run

And we must protect each other so that we can show safety in numbers

I think you’re right. Sheeps get scared quickly.

I gave a talk to a group of about 150 farmers about technology. I brought up Nostr and I was flooded with questions about “but what if people put up bad things…” it was really bizarre how much people wanted to know if it was safe… your point is well taken.

This might mean nostr would start taking off quickly when we develop it to the point where people can take a quick look at it and figure out how to safely & easily use it
