Yes, it's beyond obvious they neither got a bribe, are invested nor have any control over anonymous devs.
Monero community consists largely of Bitcoin OGs so it is self-funded.
Plus the reputational taint of being associated with "drug money" #monero .. actually heard this one in real life recently, lost a few braincells to that.
Of course, those idiots have no idea that's what people used to say about bitcoin... before they realized it's completely transparent.
Monero self selects against the weak, just as Bitcoin did in the early days. It's a test of open mindedness and willingness to be a dissident.
