My father and Grandfather kept snakes as pets. When I was about 6 or 7 my father insisted that I pick up a garter snake so that I would learn that it wouldn't hurt me that bad (#80sParenting) . Forty+ years later me when I see a snake in the yard...
I did this for my NextDoor group. Since that is the case common is a relative term, these are likely NOT the 5 most common snakes in your area. But this is really info rich and if you are interested in snakes or are afraid of them it may be beneficial to read.
