As someone experimenting with ditching my KYC ISP to live off of mobile hotspot, I am realizing that the Windows 10 and 11 OS use a criminal amount of data, even with updates disabled and on 'metered connection' mode. Like 7.8GB in the last 5 days. WTF is windows up to?!

That seems high. Did you deoat with privacy.sexy ? Maybe windows update ?
Hotspots are shitty , i tried that before for a month.OS and phone upgrades are terrible . Its not worth it
I know. I bought a cheap used laptop mostly just to use for car diagnostics, and it came with Windows 10. The amount of background crap it's doing, slowing it down is insane. It's annoying that some of the software I use is windows only.
It's just in case.
time to take the plunge into the great ocean of Linux
I have two Linux PC's but endlessly troubleshooting every little last thing is stressful as hell. I like to play games, but I can never tell if they are crashing because I did something wrong or just "because Linux". Best Linux experience I've had is Steam Deck's OS, but unfortunately it's has no official release for desktop hardware.
i'm pretty happy with Zorin OS 17 on Linux iox 6.5.0-28-lowlatency #29.1~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Apr 4 17:17:55 UTC x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
zorin got my pick because it was the only live USB that actually worked with my fancy new RX 7800 XT video card, and until just recently that kernel was the only one i found that worked, but it was a bit buggy with X and games... now, it's stable with games on X and i hate wayland so that suits me well... also wayland can't do screen sharing and i need that every other day in my job
Pop OS used to be good but it seems that times they are a changin'
