How did we get to the point where we have a country full of people who are convinced that they are doing a good deed when they ask the state to fund Palestine, maternity leave, the poor, the homeless, private startups, ideological and political activists, hungry children in Africa, etc.?
People have delegated their responsibility - caring for their loved ones - to the state. In this way, they have deprived themselves of that special pleasure, which is when you help someone in need. Everyone has probably done a favor in their life to a completely unknown person, helped that person a lot, and did not ask for any return favor or compensation. Then you know very well what it feels like, such things make the giver happy.
Europeans have delegated all of this to the state. Now we have a state that takes so much from us that we do not have much room for voluntary help, neither in time nor in money. But if we had a state that took less and dealt exclusively with the tasks for which it was founded, people would have much more and could help those they believe are in need. You would choose which humanitarian organization you want to donate to because it has convinced you that it does good deeds; which ideological activists you will support because they stand for ideals and values that are close to your heart; which children in the world deserve your help and which terrorist organizations do not.
There would be much less injustice and people would be much happier. The state is not the solution, it is the problem.
