It's not a magic kill switch. Just partially disables cellular, wifi, and Bluetooth. E911, Find my iPhone, GPS all still work. So do all your sensors so it can retroactively track you. Only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery or put in a faraday bag.

Sure do, Amazon like any mass focused marketplace with little to no oversight serves as a cheap entry point and breeding ground for knockoffs and inferior “signal blocking” products that make claims that can’t back up.
