Learning about rss, music and options here, by now I'm interested in MSP. I have the doubt about if it's possible to host my music on IPFS and serve it from there with the CID to podcast 2.0, or I need some other storage or VPS... with a domain?

Yes. I think, but could be wrong that You’ll have to host it on your own server, but then you can share those files here. https://ipfspodcasting.net/

nostr:npub177fz5zkm87jdmf0we2nz7mm7uc2e7l64uzqrv6rvdrsg8qkrg7yqx0aaq7 may be able to offer some more insight as I’m less familiar with ipfs

I host over 30 music / podcast feeds on my digitalocean server (very inexpensive) as well as ipfs.

If you visit https://ipfspodcasting.net/Feed all but 11 "podcasts" in the top half are hosted by me and are served through IPFS.

All you really need is a place to host your RSS file and songs that is publicly available. Then submit it to podcastindex, org

ipfspodcasting.net provides a redirect that fetches the mp3 from an ipfs node and serves it through a public gateway automatically.

Here is an example of how the redirect works.

https://ipfspodcasting.net/e/cdn.kolomona.com/podcasts/lightning-thrashes/bands/prismind/disciples-by-Design/04-prismind-diamond_eye.mp3

If you put ipfs podcasting into your splits then it incentivises ipfs nodes to pin your mp3 file as they get a portion of the split.

As far as needing a domain; I don't know of any podcast players that support the ipfs protocol natively so the ipfspodcasting redirect to to gateway is the only way that I know of to get ipfs to work.

I'm not sure if this post answers your questions or was helpful. Hopefully it was 🙂

Hi Sir! So I think I understand it a little better, it's a matter of protocols. Before I assumed that I could use my own ipfs node as host and serve music exclusively from there and instead of a domain use the pure cid of the files. Ok, I'm gonna see wich host and domain options I can find. Many thanks!

Nice and powerful song, by the way!

When you get ready to start publishing I recommend that you look into free and open RSS tools such as:

https://sovereignfeeds.com

Has all the bells and whistles can be used for music as well as making podcasts.

https://musicsideproject.com

Focused on the needs of musicians

https://www.thesplitkit.com

Only needed if you need to have the wallet switching based on time.

It's what I use to split value to the artists as their song plays during my Lightning Thrashes show https://lightningthrashes.com

If you have any questions reach out. There are a ton of us who are doing this that are more than happy to help.

I did experiment a little bit with IPFS for something called the Hive Sound Library which is another great web 3 platform. I’ve been considering something similar here on Nostr and there is Wavlake - have you tried that one out?

IPFS didn’t really work out for me.

Not yet, this week is for me to read and try to understand the diferent options and then I'll give a try to some. I'd like to self host my music. The more I read, the more I see that going only IPFS is not the best option

Podcasting 2.0 is using Hive for Podping to eliminate the need for constant polling of the RSS feeds.

Yes over on the Hive blockchain we have Cast Garden and possibly other projects too? Well worth exploring these different ideas.
