I sometimes wonder how Gnome has become the defacto desktop for most of #Linux. It does look beautiful, that I cannot deny; but it’s lack of functionality, over simplification of apps, and lack of customization really make it sort of inferior to most other desktops.

It's almost like the Mac wannabe of Linux.
I want to have the option to speed in a car if I want, just like I want the option to break my computer if I want.
I don't like it. I'm pretty used to computers, and it makes me feel like I don't know where to start on even a simple task. I'm sure it can be used brilliantly by those who like it, but it's an obstacle otherwise.
Just set 3 family members up with Kubuntu this week. Way easier place to get started.
Mint is solid, the best I found for managing system/boot stuff, and for playing a DVD, but somewhat boring.
