Someone I knew and respected a long time ago said (paraphrased) as a man, you can be really good and successful at securing and dominating your professional space (business, career, etc.) or be a great family man. But not both. Choose young and understand the costs to your decision.

I don't know if I co-sign that approach to life.

For many I think this is true, it’s like method acting where you have to do it all the time to succeed? However there are those flexible souls who can be separate people at different times.

But you can't physically be in two places at once.

Hmmm πŸ€”

I suspect how you frame your life is a significant factor on whether this understanding is correct or false.

I.e. could I have gotten where I am and being great in both realms of my life doing the things I've done. Probably not! But could I have chosen a different sector, such as a school teacher or maybe in manufacturing....possibly.

But the wins and losses would not be the same.

More mind noise. But, it's been occupying my mind as of late as a curiosity. I knew and understood the costs of my decisions when I made them. But maybe I could have considered different options to choose from.

No regrets, but how would I advise the next generation if I was asked the question.
