Are their eucalyptus?
I was surprised to find out how invasive the humble gum tree is overseas.
Yup there everywhere - highly flammable here
Yeah - they're a fast growing tree that can survive in the harshest of conditions.
If they're actively managed (hard pruned twice a year), they can be used to regenerate poor soils.
If left unmanaged they dominate the landscape & degrade soil.
In Australia, we just accept that they exist and don't think too much about them. Overseas, they're a revered support plant in Syntropic farming, but otherwise they're mostly hated.
I didn’t know that - I need to research a little more and not look at them as a negative
Syntropic farming evolved in parallel to permaculture.
The name is in contrast to conventional farming which is entropic to the soil (the soil is constantly being degraded).
It's given me a new appreciation for weeds. Every plant serves a purpose if they're managed appropriately.
