Today is the anniversary of Nat Turner's 1831 slave rebellion, one of the most significant slave uprisings in US history. On August 21, 1831, Turner, an enslaved preacher, led a 3-day uprising in Southampton County, Virginia. Slaves went from plantation to plantation, killing around 60 enslavers, making it the deadliest slave uprising in US history. Turner evaded capture for six weeks but was eventually put on trial, convicted, and executed on November 11, 1831.
