What's wrong with loli enjoyers? You can always block them.

What do you mean by fail? Not achieving Twitter size?

I'll stay if I find interesting people to talk to. Or to sell drugs.

I don't think success would mean reaching twitter size or being a twitter-killer. But I think it would need to grow (to what size I don't know), but significantly more and with a wider audience. Although I think some devs here have even grander plans/idea of where nostr could potentially go in the future. Not sure.

To widen the userbase, you can get onion folks to join. There's maybe 1k of them.

The devs are just greedy and arrogant thinking they're gonna sell to Musk for 6 gorrillion dollars.

These onion people you speak of. What format of social media are they using? Do they have their own microblogging/messageboards.

1k isn't really all that much. 🤔 I wonder what the size of substack is. Posters/traffic. I'm probably thinking that sort of size would be some arbitrary imaginary success point, I've pulled out the air

Dread is reddit style. Pitch is twitter style. Both are horrible for shitposting so you'll have absolutely no trouble getting them to switch. Get the Tor browser and make accounts.

I wouldn't trust Substack numbers. From what I see people don't read much. They watch short form video and porn. There is not much room for the rest.

Not sure I agree with you about reading, think it's a significant number. I don't know the stats but independent publishers of e/books pull in really significant numbers, and apparently often overshadowing traditional publishers.

Are you dissidentsound? Lol

No. But I tried to help him get a 1911

Please share if you find. I wanna learn about the field.

I can't remember where I saw this, but there is a bit of 'scene' of indie and selfpublishing. It's not really surprising maybe, when you consider publishing has similar trends in TV/movies, and there is a growing disinterest from audiences in their overly lib (or whatever you want to call it) churn. But there is a dedicated audience for alternatives, people with huge twitter followings. (Several x more active users on the whole of Nostr lol). I suppose bronze age pervert is probably the most well known example (even if you don't like him), delicioustacos, Paul town, imperium press, terrorhouse press etc

They may have a million followers but how many pay? 1 in 1M.

YouTube is the best but you'll get censored and the algo is tricky

Hmm I think there are different types of accounts. People following writers for their writing probably have a much higher % of people willing to pay for books (and donate). Compared to the stats on an influencer-style 1m follower account who don't really have the same dedicated following willing to support and purchase.

The average salary for self publishers is like I don't know 13k, (which yeah as an average. There's obviously people exceeding). And then there's the sort of talking head/ podcast circuit with donations, and substacks, patreons. People are supplementing incomes, some making a living off of it (probably not a great deal tbf). But way better than the % you're suggesting.

Hmm, what's the " algorithm " for gaining subs then?

Clout, networking, The Discourse, writing talent lol. I don't know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Assume you have writing that people wanna read. How to reach them? Are crypto capable folks enough or need to suck up to Visa and MasterCard?

Probably better off writing fiction. Although a lot of people are still waiting on nick land to finish his bitcoin book.

So it's better to optimize what to write instead of writing what flows?

I don't like Nick Land, but I like his fan base. The other way around compared to Rick and Morty, Hitler, Bitcoin.

Let's create a magazine, and see if people read and donate. Put your theory to the test.

Lol, I think a lot of it is down to establishing a large following alongside the writing.

And this aspect sucks on Nostr cause there are just a bunch of boring greedy bitcoin worshipers ?
