It’s wild how detached from death we’ve become. It’s not often that we see a dead body. We even outsource the burial process to a company to take care of it for us.

In the Middle Ages you’d witness death often. You’d bury your own family members and friends with your own hands. A common sickness could take you out with very little notice.

I can’t help but think this would have a positive impact on your spiritual life. You live your life differently when you know that tomorrow isn’t promised.

With the medical advancements of today, we seem to think we’re invincible. Death doesn’t even cross our minds until we’re 70 years old and realize we don’t have much time left. By then it’s too late.

Memento Mori

Remember you must die.

Speak 🗣️ for yourself. Many of us have seen far too much death. And wars. But you’re right … it changes you #spiritually

I’m aware people have seen plenty of death, it’s just not nearly as common for the everyday person.

In which country? Sincerely?

Any first world country

St. Benidict asked his monks to keep in front of their eyes for this reason.

:) correction : St. Benidict asked his monks to keep death in front of their eyes for this reason. (But you got the meaning )

I think you are spot on for someone living in most places in the USA. Sadly, in our town death is too common from drug overdoses likely from Fentanyl as an additive to other drugs

Drugs definitely wreak havoc on some towns in the U.S., it’s very sad.

Remember Death by Matthew McCullough is on this exact topic and a great book. Highly recommended for anyone under 30 (or older) who hasn't thought about dying recently.

Thank you I’ll be sure to check that out, sounds interesting
