It’s wild how detached from death we’ve become. It’s not often that we see a dead body. We even outsource the burial process to a company to take care of it for us.

In the Middle Ages you’d witness death often. You’d bury your own family members and friends with your own hands. A common sickness could take you out with very little notice.

I can’t help but think this would have a positive impact on your spiritual life. You live your life differently when you know that tomorrow isn’t promised.

With the medical advancements of today, we seem to think we’re invincible. Death doesn’t even cross our minds until we’re 70 years old and realize we don’t have much time left. By then it’s too late.

Memento Mori

Remember you must die.

Remember Death by Matthew McCullough is on this exact topic and a great book. Highly recommended for anyone under 30 (or older) who hasn't thought about dying recently.
