Thought about trying notedeck, until now. Choice is freedom. Even with V4V, people have larger follower counts, and different economic situations—not everyone can zap everything they like, and for many, it feels too transactional. IMO, this constriction will lead to diminished engagement.

I respectfully don’t buy this argument. You never have to zap something, and you can “react” with a reply

“Great post” >> 👍

Yeah, we can have a variety of emojis or a variety of sat amounts first. From a UX perspective, they do the same thing (react), but the former has alternative UX patterns already.

Fair, but asking people to reply in lieu of a reaction is more "work" for the end user. UX is a fickle thing, and decades of UX experiments in marketing and user engagement show that one tap increases engagement better than the necessity of three to accomplish the same task.

Exactly this 👆🏾

I think part of the issue is the marketing name “onlyzaps”. Most seem to think they have to zap. When in reality, they can just reply. I think there would be more engagement if people used likes less. They would have to comment or send an emoji

Yeah. I love the love. But replies, boost, and zaps mean more. Zaps last, after likes btw. I'd rather replies, and boosting my note. 🫡💪🫂

You mean reactions by love?

If someone actually finds what I'm sharing with the world valuable, they should have something to say about it, and/or share because they found it important to share.

Agreed

Dude, nobody thinks this way... 😂

It’s very apparent how a feed can fill up. Takes time tapping and typing to reply to potentially many notes you don’t want to zap. Especially if you only have a few minutes to check in. Options are good. A 1-tap reaction often just fits the bill. Why take the away?

Are you fuxking serious?!?

1 sat zap ain’t breakin no banks

Many do not use the Lightning Network due to its inherent privacy issues.

Nutzaps fixe this. See NIP-61 and talk to nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft if you need more detail

"DISCLAIMER: Use with caution - the project is highly experimental."

It seems to work on Cashu.

eCash/Cashu likely has its place as a more private, non-techy custodial solution on top of BTC, though it does come with very real risks of custodial rugpulling and malicious actors.

Are there such thing as Bolt12 zaps yet?

Privacy issues? Lightning can be very private. You won't be able to identify anything about me from my lightning address. Anyone using private channels will be invisible on the lightning network.

Everyone should only ever use private, unannounced channels for lightning. Only for-profit public routing nodes should use public announced channels.

That's how you remain invisible on the lightning network.

The cost of 1 sat is actually very expensive in terms of time and effort for those who don't have lightning wallets set up.

There's a reason the internet runs on ads. The barrier of entry for a payment method is far more important than the actual amount being paid.

Why would not having reactions lead to lower engagement? If you don’t want to zap, you can comment which would lead to greater engagement. The replies on this thread are a perfect example.

zaps are one click ?

that turns the zap into another no value interaction

They are. It's the rest of the engagement I am referring to. Many do not use the Lightning Network due to its ongoing inherent privacy issues/concerns.

I generally agree with this. I’m never going to zap everything I see so not having reactions just leads to less engagement. I see likes as a simple acknowledgement that people see your notes and emoji reactions can convey a whole range of emotions that zaps don’t. I personally think that a thoughtful comment is often the best form of engagement.

Everyone uses Nostr in different ways though. I’m not here to become a content creator or influencer so for me an occasional zap is nice but I’m not trying to get zaps to earn a living.
