I need to replace both my phone and iPad imminently. Does anyone have any product recommendations? I’ve just stuck with 🍏 for ages. #asknostr

iPhone and iPad? 😆

I'd stick with iPhone at least. Cliche but it just works. Been on both sides and I'm happier with iPhone, simple and walled garden but generally no problems.

What problems are there on Android?

If I'd have an iPhone I would never be able to use it, because it does not allow me to do anything, I need to do.

What do you do on your iPhone? Or would you want to do on your iPhone?

Install any third party app store.

Install third party apps without any connection to any Apple service, whatsoever.

Access all my user files (non-root) via MTP on my computer, without using any Apple service whatsoever.

Using it without an iCloud. Maybe possible, but, as far as I know, you have to cut a lot of possibilities, if you commit to that.

Flashing custom ROM or the ability to manage ALL apps on the phone the way I want to, without restrictions. If I want to delete an app, even if it's one from Apple, let me delete it.

Having everything work on a generic PC, for example running Linux, just as if I'd be using an Android phone.

Being able to develop on the system I use. In this hypothetical scenario I would use an iPhone, so this would be my system & I would like to develop anything I like for it, without registering & begging Apple for permission to develop something for the device I legally BOUGHT & OWN, which means, I should be able to do whatever I want with it, without any registration or connections to online services, whatsoever.

And I did not even mention all the anti-repair crap that an iPhone encompasses. XD

Like, I cannot even use a generic phone charger. This must be some scam.

OnePlus with LineageOS or, even better, Google Pixel with GrapheneOS

Absolutely, Graphene is a super simple install, not going to have NFC functionality but I think otherwise you'd be okay.

Primarily read 😂 I also use apps that benefit from being able to draw and use an Apple Pencil. I wouldn’t be looking to replace my iPad but it took a leap out of my sister’s trunk. It’s old enough to not be covered by apple care. With a cracked screen it’s hit or miss whether I can use any apps that allow you to draw on the screen. Now it’s starting to leave glass flakes in its trail.

Maybe it might be time to check out an eink reader 👀, I might get one in the next few months. The big three brands to consider, each with thorough reviews on YouTube -

The Ratta Supernote seems to be the most transparent on their developments to their community. I'm considering them.

The Onyx Boox looks to be accessible, but they aren't transparent in their development and are pretty shady by not releasing their kernel code (meaning their security is not auditable), so I won't buy from them on that basis.

Lastly, the Remarkable basically requires to have a subscription to use it.😬

Most importantly, flash a custom ROM onto it.

If you can get your hands on a good recent Pixel, you can go with that & #GrapheneOS.

Im a fan of plxel devices for phones And my samsung tablet is nice. Its a smt-150 I think. Only downside to the samsung tablet is the lack of flashable OS's for it so im kinda stuck on the stock OS.

I would recommend a pixel 6a. Price is fine and you are able to use grapheneOS. Pixel-Tablet works also with grapheneOS. 🧡🧡🧡

Pixel with CalyxOS or Graphene for Phone. For Tablet, I run a Galaxy Tab 6 and flashed LineageOS on it.

If you do not need top camera and still want to use iOS but tinker with Android for Nostr.

I'd recommend buying used

iPhone SE 2020 for $140-175 always ask what the battery health is at.

Then I'd get a pixel 4a or pixel 6a and flash graphene or calyxos

Can buy these used almost brand new for very cheap sub $200

You just got two really great phones for the half price of a new one.

Tablets I'd stick with Samsung tab tablets because of Samsung Dex ability to add keyboard and use it like a laptop when you need to.
