How would I memorize what nip05 is legit? I can make a fake account and get a nip05 with a different service. How would someone spot the difference? They both have nip05.

famous person usually stick to one. nip-05 is not a perfect solution and they are looking for other altermstives. but to positively verify someone would then require some sort of centralization solution
Right. Wondered if it is bloat for nostr. And if it could be a privacy issue. People signing up for nip05 giving away their IP address to these sites. Just some thoughts i had.
Just a few thoughts:
- you’d only be giving away your IP if you’re already giving it to relays (I.e. not behind a vpn)
- some clients will alert you if a profile appears with the same nickname and a different NIP-5, or one that does not validate (Nostur does this)
- the real value added by NIP-5 is a human readable way to find someone’s profile. It definitely should’ve never been called verification.

It's also great against mass spam. Just block everything without valid nip5. Then spam gets expensive.

But only on domains without cost. There will be a list of well-known not-free nip5 domains, then this will be to expensive for mass spam.
But that service can be as cheap as nostrich.house for a single real user.
