There’s this saying that happiness is only real when it’s shared. That’s not true. You can be in complete solitude and notice a beautiful bird, a flower, a wild animal out in nature, or a memory may pop up that entails immense happiness. And you don’t have to share that experience or feeling with anyone without it being any less valuable for it. Solitude in and of itself can be a source of happiness. Love, however… is only real when it’s shared.

I have only heard the line in the "Into the Wild" film. Did people know this as a common saying before that?
AFAIK it does originate from that film. But it seems to have become a quite popular saying - a lot of the times I've seen it, it's not even being presented as a quote, or without mentioning the movie. Maybe it's just me tho and the happenstances I've come across 🤷♂️
