Fire ants are evil bastards, and I hope they come down with some disease that will kill them all in a slow, tortuous manner. I was attacked, and didnt realize it until they were halfway up my leg! 😡 #grownostr

They're still evil bastards.

Well, my ants raise the aphids 🤷‍♂️

Nick Ferguson said there is a specific nematode that kills them.

I do have a way to give them a horrible death though, orange oil. Put about 2TBS to a gallon of water and slowly pour it into the mound.

It melt their exoskeletons and I have to think it is a shitty way to go. And I agree they deserve it.

I need to try that, I think I even have some orange oil. Thanks for the tip.

Don't they go away whem the soil is perfectly healthy?

I can attest to what Jack said, they are always around, and they love healthy soil. And when the ground is wet from rain, like we've had lately, its like ants on steroids.

I recently build a special portable furnace for doing the backyard aluminum casting thing. Someone near here is making money by pouring molten aluminum down fire ant holes and selling the abstract sculpture it makes. I think I could do that! Surely it’s more unpleasant than orange oil. Function stacking. Kill the ants, fun and dangerous activity, recycle aluminum, and sell the results.

I like that idea!

i can attest that orange oil works, but unless you get the queen, the mound just pops up a foot over from where you drenched. sometimes it takes a couple of drenchings to get her.

and, Dr. Christopher's bone & tissue ointment is excellent, if you don't have comfrey of your own growing, for the fire ant bites. https://bit.ly/drchristopher
